Bud Hendrickson on the James Cooley, It’s Your Life Podcast

Bud Hendrickson is passionate about enjoying life’s journey. He is the youngest of seven children with six older sisters. He was raised in a one-bathroom house next to the family business where he developed his strong work ethic at an early age. Raised in a small town, Bud played three sports while in high school while also working to earn money to put gas in his car. After being baptized just before getting married, both Bud and his wife enjoyed a spiritual growth journey together that laid a foundation upon which to build his bedrock truths. A family man with a career in Engineering and Maintenance Leadership, Bud has worked in numerous industries. He graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in May…

Greater Results with Less Effort— Applying the Ten Bedrock Truths To Achieve the Results You Desire While Building A Better You

As my new book Enjoy Greater Results with Less Effort * Build a Better You is being published, which builds on the Ten Bedrock Truths of my first book, Enjoy Your Journey – Ten Bedrock Truths to Improve Everything About You, I would like to look through the rearview mirror to reflect on how the Ten Bedrock Truths are needed now, and as impactful currently as at any time in history. We have endured much since 2010, but the last year has brought a tsunami of events that have touched all of us, but rocked the foundations of many. My family possesses bookend examples when it comes to how they have been affected by the COVID-19 virus and the social policies of our world. For example: My younger son got…

God’s Plan Unfolding

As we gathered for New Year’s Eve Celebrations on December 31, 2019, I don’t think that any one of us would have thought that the New Year of 2020 would have unfolded as it did: economically, medically, emotionally, financially, coupled with a national election and associated political strife seen in immense divisions societally. Much of this crisis environment was driven by a virus, or so we were told. Our country and indeed our world have gone from one negative event to another. The effects on people are as varied as the people themselves, but it would be safe to say we all have been impacted significantly by the events of 2020. The publisher of my book Enjoy your Journey - Ten Bedrock Truths to Improve Everything About You wanted to assemble…

It has been a crazy month with the Corona-virus pandemic. Many things are out of our control and many unknowns lie ahead. Comfort comes to me from Bedrock Truth 10 which comes from Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” I am encouraged with all the great stories of people doing acts of kindness to support their family, neighbors, friends, or some other person in need. I believe that when challenges or tough times come our way, we have a choice as to how we will deal with these crises, regardless of degrees of severity. I hope our society becomes more like Jesus in the upper room after the last supper…

Great Results with Less Effort

Great Results with Less Effort

I have had this thought running in my mind for a while about getting Great Results with Less Effort. I have been reflecting on my recent five years with two job changes, relocating from a community we lived for twenty years, and a terminal illness that ended up in the passing of Nancy, my high school sweetheart and wife of twenty-eight years. What I have learned through the experiences of my Life Journey was the importance of using the Bedrock Truths to focus on the highest priority issues, and tapping into relationships and perspectives so that I am making the most informed decisions I can. The first Bedrock Truth is “Ninety Percent Today and Ten Percent Tomorrow.” This Bedrock Truth is about prioritizing what is most important and investing in…

Enjoy Your Chemistry!!

Enjoy Your Chemistry!!

Blogs, Blogs special
I always knew humans are affected by chemistry (hormones) in our body.  I never really looked into it until recently when my son Grant shared a video by Simon Sinek: Why Leaders Eat Last. The gold nugget or ah ha moment for me was when Simon went into detail about the hormones and their role.  It was like a light bulb went on inside my head – Enjoy Your Journey and the 10 Bedrock Truths is all about Enjoying Your Chemistry!! What we do and how we respond affect how our hormone system engages.   The two hormones I want to focus on are Oxytocin and Cortisol. Oxytocin is like an antidepressant and it has a positive effect on prosocial behaviors.  When we have good levels of Oxytocin we are relaxed,…

What I love about this picture of my son Grant teaching his grandfather how to better use his Iphone is that learning can go both ways.  Here is a guy that was born in the mid 1920's, raised on a ranch in Western South Dakota during the depression, was a navigator on B-29's during WWII and has been shot down, came home and went to college, started a business, and raised a family.  He is open to learning from someone much younger than he is and who has experienced much less of life than he has.  Why? That Iphone allows him to stay in closer contact will family and friends and he recognizes the skill and familiarity that the younger generation has with technology.  His pride does not get in…

Margin of Money…The Bedrock Truth: Living with Less

Margin of Money…The Bedrock Truth: Living with Less

On HGTV there are numerous shows on Tiny House Living.  This trend is probably not for everyone, but the idea of living with less should be something everyone should consider.  As I read this article “The Financial Benefits of Living With Less” I was amazed that the average household spends 10% of their income on interest!  Most probably have a mortgage and unless we have overbought, owning a home is a benefit over renting.  But how much of it is car payments and credit cards where we are buying stuff that in a short time it is gone?  My wife used to have the saying “Simple Elegance” and her perspective in decorating a home that  less is better so it doesn’t look cluttered.  I can say I have never bought a new car and…
